Orientation and Priorities

NROS has three main priorities which it is realizing within the scope of its programmes:

1. Development of civil society and the non-profit sector

The development of civil society and the non-profit sector is a fundamental priority of the foundation and is traditionally supported mainly from EU resources. Within the framework of programmes already underway, these resources support projects aimed at improving information services and training in the sphere of non-profit organizations. A significant resource for the realisation of projects of this kind was the donation of a villa in Česká Skalice which has been transformed into a place for meetings and training for the non-profit sector and the development of European co-operation.

2. Human rights and integration of the Roma community

The human rights and multicultural society, disadvantaged children and youth and environmental protection will be supported to a significant extent by the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism that was established by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Czech NGOs will profit from this fund between the years 2006 – 2009. The fund will make grant support available to NGO applicants through three calls for proposals over the next three years. NROS will administer the app. 10 mln € fund, including organizing the calls for proposals and the evaluation of applications. Moreover, the foundation was successful in both rounds of the public tender for a contribution to the foundation endowment from the Foundation Investment Fund. From the revenues, NROS supports projects dealing with human rights every year. The protection of human rights thus became a permanent feature of the foundation programmes.

3. Programmes for children and young people

NROS is becoming a more and more significant player in the field of the broad support of programmes for children and young people, for which it receives funds from local and foreign sources. The programme "Help the Children!" has become a national model of successful individual fundraising, corporate sponsorship and local initiatives. Now it is the best known Czech fund-raising campaign, which every year provides resources for dozens of non-profit organisations throughout the country which look after threatened and disadvantaged children. Via its membership in the International Youth Foundation network, NROS is creating favourable conditions for the growth of professionalism and, thus, expanding the possibility of acquiring foreign experience and resources for other programmes in this sphere.

Co-operation on a national and international level

The foundation co-operates with a host of non-profit organizations, higher education establishments, governmental institutions, and the media and business worlds. Being one of the founding members of the Czech Donors Forum, NROS is a member of the Governmental Council on Non-Governmental Non-Profit organisations. NROS is the partner of the International Youth Foundation (IYF) developing the Make a Connection programme in the Czech Republic. Thanks to financial support from Robert Bosch Foundation, NROS implemented an international programme klub-net. NROS participated in the work of the international foundation network, which develops and supports programmes for children and young people, and is a member of the European Foundation Centre (EFC).
